Ex-Man United Player Sentenced To Jail For Failing To Pay Child Support

Former Manchester United player Anderson has been sentenced to jail for failing to pay child support, MySportDab reports.

Further details of the report reveals a family Judge in Brazil have asked for the former footballer to be remanded in jail until he clears his child maintenance fees.

He owes up to £45,000 with the order asking him to clear the debt or be remanded in custody for at least 30 days.

Anderson joined Manchester United in 2007 from Porto and won four Premier League titles with the club. He also played for Fiorentina in Italy in Serie before returning to his homeland Brazil to play for Internacional.

Brazilian outlet, GZH, said Anderson has been given the option to work in the day and return to the prison in the night in a “semi-open” prison arrangement of he decides not to appeal but serve the jail term.

However, he is duty-bound to ensure the £45,000 is cleared before he can reclaim his freedom in the next 30 days.

Anderson is said to have nine children now after he earlier confirmed in 2015 that he has only five. At the time of this report, effort has been made to contact him for comment but it has been futile.

He and his lawyer are expected to respond to the court verdict by appealing it or accepting it. Anderson called time in his professional football career in 2020 after a spell with Turkish club Adana Demirspor.

He was renowned for his time at Manchester United from 2007 to 2015 where he made 105 Premier League appearances for the club, scoring six goals.
