Manchester United’s position has been confirmed on Alejandro Garnacho after the player liked a post of former player Cristiano Ronaldo criticizing Erik ten Hag, MySportDab reports.
Erik ten Hag and Cristiano Ronaldo got recently entangled in a boiling media war after the Portuguese aimed a dig at the Dutchman for saying Manchester United cannot compete for the Premier League or Champions League title.
Speaking on his YouTube channel with his former teammate Rio Ferdinand, Ronaldo took a swipe at Ten Hag for downplaying United’s chances this season, insisting such should not be coming from a Man United manager.
Garnacho, who is known to be a fan of the iconic footballer, was among subscribers fans who liked Ronaldo’s comment in the video, as detailed by Fabrizio Romano.
The reaction mustn’t have gone well with Erik ten Hag. In the game against Southampton, Garnacho, who started against Liverpool before the international break was surprisingly dropped to the bench.
He was subbed on as a late substitute and would wrap up the win for the Old Trafford club with a stoppage-time strike.
However, speculations have been rife over the decision of have the youngster benched in the game with some reports it might be due to his liking of Ronaldo’s criticism of the Dutchman.
However, according to Manchester Evening News, the decision to bench Alejandro Garnacho in the match at St Mary’s was a tactical decision not due to his social media activity.
Amad Diallo started and starred in Alejandro Garnacho’s place but the latter was able to put up a great 11 minutes shift, scoring to make it 3-0 for the Red Devils.
He will be in contention to return to the starting lineup in United’s next match.
