Former Manchester United player Tahith Chong collapsed on the pitch during Luton Town’s Championships match with Plymouth on Friday night, MySportDab reports.
The match was forced to be halted after the Dutch youngster could not move again and crumpled to the ground closer to the penalty area.
The incident sparked a frenzy among the players and staff. Medical officers ran up to the pitch for needed assistance.
He was then stretchered off the field to the dugout. After being stretchered off the field, Chong awoke and was on his feet allaying fears of a serious medical issue for the player.
However, he could not continue with the match and had to be subbed off with Jacob Brown coming on.
Confirming the medical situation of the player after the game, Luton manager Rob Edwards said the former Netherlands U21 player had a concussion which was sore but added the player is fine and there is no cause for concern.
Chong graduated from Manchester United Academy in 2019. He made five first-team appearances for the club before being loaned to Werder Bremen, Club Brugge, and then Birmingham where he secured a permanent transfer. He switched to Luton Town last summer and was an integral part of the team’s campaign in the 2023-24 Premier League which ended in relegation. He scored five goals in 38 appearances for the club but it was not enough to save the Hatters from the drop.
Back to the Championships, they will hope to pull a brilliant performance and possibly return to the elite division but it appears the results aren’t coming.
After seven matches into the season, they are 16th on the table with seven points from two wins a draw and four defeats.
The game against Plymouth ended in a defeat with the Wayne Rooney side easing to a 3-1 victory. A brace from Cissoko and a goal from Al Haji saw the team cancelled out Victor Moses’ 71st-minute strike.
The club have now lost four consecutive matches in the England second division and will hope to return to winning ways when they take on Oxford United on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
