Pep Guardiola Confirms Update on Rodri Injury

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed update on Rodri’s injury, MySportDab reports.

The Spanish defensive midfielder picked up a knee injury in the first half during 2-2 Premier League draw with Arsenal at Etihad on Sunday.

In the least expected nightmare for the home side, he collapsed to the ground after colliding with Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey while trying to charge for the ball.

City medical team were signalled for immediate attention but he could not continue with the game and was helped off the pitch with Mateo Kovacic coming on.

Addressing the injury after the match, Pep Guardiola said he isn’t aware of the nature of the problem with the club’s doctors expected to give further update on the situation

“I don’t know yet, I didn’t ask the doctors,” said Guardiola. “Rodri is strong. He leaves the pitch in this action because he felt something, otherwise Rodri stays there,” he added.

Rodri has been the fulcrum of Manchester City’s unrivaled dominance of the English Premier League. City have won 74% of matches Rodri has played and lost 11%, drawing the rest.

Conversely, they have lost 24% of matches without the player, winning 64%. This shows the integral role the 2024 Euro winner has played in the team. Hence, an injury blow could undo City’s domestic and European campaign.

Manchester City fans will be hoping for a positive update from the medical department as the player undergoes scan to ascertain the facts of the injury.

Meanwhile, he could add to City’s piling injury incident with Kevin De Bruyne and Nathan Ake also sidelined.
