Former Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia has expressed his willingness to negotiate with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) if approached for the vacant Super Eagles head coach position, MySportDab Report.
Siasia, a notable figure in Nigerian football, shared his openness in an interview with Lagos Talks but stressed the importance of thorough discussions before committing to the role.
“I know the situation we’re in, but you have to negotiate. I won’t jump in without a proper plan because it’s a difficult situation,” Siasia stated.
Siasia, 57, boasts an extensive coaching career with Nigerian teams, having managed the Flying Eagles (U-20) from 2005 to 2007 and later leading the U-23 team.
He took charge of the Super Eagles in 2010 but was dismissed after failing to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. A brief return as interim coach in 2016 also ended abruptly.
In 2019, Siasia was handed a FIFA ban due to corruption allegations, but he has since returned to football and is being considered as a possible candidate for the Super Eagles’ permanent head coach.
Siasia emphasized the need for proper planning and a solid contract, noting that Nigerians expect victories but that building a successful team requires strategy and preparation. “Nigerians don’t want to hear anything other than a win. But without a well-prepared team, how can you achieve that?” he added.
Augustine Eguavoen currently serves as interim coach of the Super Eagles, having overseen recent games against Benin and Rwanda, securing one win and one draw.
The NFF is expected to make a decision on the permanent coaching role soon, with Siasia remaining a strong candidate.
