Nigeria’s Super Eagles have retained their 39th position in the latest Coca-Cola Men’s FIFA Rankings for September, despite their recent performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, MySportDab Reports.

In their opening two qualifiers held in September, the Super Eagles managed to secure four points from two games.

They delivered an impressive 3-0 victory against Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium before settling for a goalless draw in a tough encounter against Rwanda in Kigali.

While these results were positive, they did not significantly impact Nigeria’s FIFA ranking. The Super Eagles experienced a slight dip of -0.91 points, dropping from 1498.93 to 1498.02 points.

Despite this marginal decline, Nigeria maintains its position as the sixth-best football nation in Africa and remains 39th in the world rankings.

On the African continent, the Super Eagles trail five other nations: Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, and Tunisia. Globally, Argentina continues to lead the rankings, followed by powerhouses like France, Brazil, and England. Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal, Colombia, and Italy round out the top ten teams in the world.

In Africa, Algeria, Cameroon, Mali, and the Democratic Republic of Congo complete the top ten.

Looking ahead, the Super Eagles will have a chance to improve their standing in the next FIFA rankings, set for release on October 24, 2024. Positive results in their upcoming double-header against Libya in October, part of the ongoing 2025 AFCON qualifiers, will be crucial for Nigeria’s ambitions to climb higher in both the continental and global rankings.
