Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid match descended into chaos midway into the game, MySportDab reports.

Rancourous Atletico Madrid fans caused the match to be suspended after they went hostile with the visiting neighbours.

While the clash took a more fierce outlook, the game kicked off smoothly with no hiccups. Both sides created a series of chances but struggled to find the back of the net.

The first half ended barren as the two sides failed to break the deadlock.

In the second half, Real Madrid finally took the lead in the 64th minute. And that is when Atletico Madrid fans started bubbling with fury and hostile attitude.

The home fans who were at the stands close to Real Madrid goalpost in the second half started hurling missiles into the pitch. Some fans directly aimed the missiles at Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois trying to hit him.

It got worse to the extent that the referee had to call off the match with the players cordoned off the pitch into the dressing room.

Some Atletico Madrid players, including the manager Diego Simeone were seen trying to engage the fans and asked them to stop.

After intervention by both Atletico coaching crew and players, including security officials, normalcy returned.

With the safety of the players assured, play was resumed but after 20 minutes of delay due to the incident. Watch Video On Twitter
