However, some big names have been left out of the list. In this article, MySportDab will look at some of the top footballers that have not been nominated for the award this year.

Victor Osimhen

Nigeria international Victor Osimhen is leading the list of footballers who have been axed from the 10-man shortlist for the 2024 CAF Footballer of the Year Award, MySportDab reports.

The prolific forward, who is on loan to Galatasaray from Napoli, is the holder of the award but has missed out on the list following a not-so-stellar campaign in the said year.

Osimhen was frozen out of the Napoli squad for the 2024-25 season and managed to seal a move to Galatasaray after a failed attempt to join Chelsea in the Premier League and Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia.

However, he has continued firing for his new club Galatasaray and has found the back of the net three times, providing two assists in four Super Lig games for the club.

Mohammed Salah

He has continued on elite-level performance for the Reds, scoring week-in and week-out as the team battle to challenge for the Premier League title.

He scored 18 Premier League goals with 10 assists in 32 matches last season, including 8 Champions League goals in 8 matches.

This season, the sensational has continued with his brilliant performances, scoring five goals with five assists in eight Premier League matches. Salah is a two-time winner of the CAF Footballer of the Year award having clinched the award back-to-back in 2017 and 2018.

Victor Boniface

Nigeria international Victor Boniface is another glaring omission from the 2024 CAF Player of the Award Nominees’ list.

Boniface took the Bundesliga by storm on his debut campaign, scoring week-in and week-out to end Bayer Leverkusen’s wait for the Bundesliga title.

Although his terrific run was halted by injury, he scored 14 Bundesliga goals, including 5 in the Europa League, helping the team to the final where they lost to Atalanta. This season, he has netted five goals in eight Bundesliga games for the club.

Other top African footballers that have been left out of the award

Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson is another big name that is missing from the list. The Senegalese did not have an overly brilliant debut run with Chelsea but was impressive.

He scored 14 Premier League goals with 5 assists in 35 games. This season, he has already banged in 5 goals with 3 assists in 8 games.

25-year-old Real Madrid forward Brahim Diaz is another big omission from the list. Diaz won the Champions League and Copa Del Rey with Real Madrid last season.
