FT: Lille 1-0 Real Madrid, Los Blancos Suffer SHOCK Defeat! [VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS]

Real Madrid suffered their first Champions League defeat in several months in France, MySportDab reports.

The Los Blancos put up a less-than-stellar run from the start of the game and were duly punished by Jonathan David’s goal in the stoppage time of the first half.

The unlikely goal which earned the more clinical French side a much-needed victory came via spot kick after Eduardo Camavinga handled a free-kick inside Real Madrid’s box

Jonathan David converted it with aplomb, wrongfooting Andriy Lunin to give the home side an unlikely.

Real Madrid were the weeping boys in the game. They managed only two attempts in target and were struggling to curtail Lille’s spirited offensives.

The first half ended with the away side trailing by a goal to nil, no thanks to David’s spot-kick goal.

Frustrated with the lack of clinical chances, Carlo Ancelotti made sweeping substitutions, bringing on Kylian Mbappe, Arda Guler, and Luka Modric in the second half.

However, the substitutions made little or no difference as Lille continued to hold on to the lead despite mounting pressure

At the blast of the final whistle, Lille ran out with an unlikely victory over the defending Champions, securing the lead for all three points.

It was a disappointing performance from Real Madrid. Their next three Champions League fixtures are against Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, and Liverpool.

They will be hoping to return to winning ways when clashing with the Bundesliga side on October 2024 in the competition’s matchday three clash.

Reacting to the loss, Real Madrid manager was overly critical of his team, saying they did not do enough to win rather their opponents did.

“We were bad and slow tonight. The possession was slow, no ideas. We were bad under every aspect,” Ancelotti said after the game.

Meanwhile, the club will return to competitive action with a La Liga fixture against Villarreal on October 5, 2024.
