Victor Osimhen Focuses on Galatasaray’s Success Over Personal Goals in Super Lig Return

Victor Osimhen, has returned to full training with Galatasaray after recovering from a four-week injury layoff. As the Turkish Super Lig resumes following the international break, Osimhen is preparing for Galatasaray’s upcoming clash with Antalyaspor on Friday, MySportDab Reports.

Despite his impressive reputation and expectations, the Nigerian striker has made it clear that his primary focus is the team’s success rather than individual accolades.

In an interview with Galatasaray’s YouTube channel, Osimhen downplayed his ambitions of winning the league’s top scorer award, emphasizing that contributing to the team is his main priority. “The people that know me know I am not the kind of player who puts myself before the team,” Osimhen said. “My ambition coming to Galatasaray was not to win the highest goalscorer but to contribute to the quality the team already has.”

Osimhen joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan from Napoli, where he won the Golden Boot in Serie A during the 2022/2023 season, helping the Italian club clinch their first Scudetto in 33 years.

However, his start in Turkey has been slow, with two goals and four assists in six appearances for Galatasaray. While some may expect him to be in the race for the Super Lig top scorer title, Osimhen insists his personal achievements are secondary to the club’s goals.

“I don’t care about being the highest goalscorer in the league. If it happens, it happens, but the collective success of this club is what’s paramount,” Osimhen said. “When I get my opportunities, I want to score, I want to assist, and I want to help my teammates in both attack and defense, as the coach has instructed.”

Osimhen also spoke highly of his partnership with teammate Mauro Icardi, praising the Argentine for his experience and impact on the pitch. “I have great respect for Icardi for what he has done for football and Galatasaray. He’s a big legend here, and we have seen how well we can work together on the pitch,” Osimhen added.

As the Nigerian forward continues to adapt to life in the Turkish Super Lig, Besiktas’ Ciro Immobile currently leads the goal-scoring charts with seven goals, while Fenerbahce’s Edin Dzeko and Istanbul Basaksehir duo Krzysztof Piatek and João Figueiredo are close behind with five goals each.

Despite his modest start, Osimhen remains focused on helping Galatasaray achieve collective success in the 2023/2024 season, with individual accolades taking a backseat to the team’s ambitions.
