Trent Alexander-Arnold may be plying his trade away from Liverpool next season and is closing in on quitting the boyhood club as a free agent, MySportDab reports.
The 26-year-old’s contract with Liverpool will expire at the end of the season and MySportDab understands there is no new deal in place between the club and top-rated right-back.
However, talks to renew terms with the footballer has been underway since the start of the season, per close sources but nothing has yet to the agreed.
Arnold allayed fears of Liverpool fans with an innuendo revealing the state of the negotiations on new terms with the club.
According to him, he has signed several contracts with the club – all behind closed doors – and the expected new offer will not depart from tradition to become a public affair.
However, away from his glorified rhetorics to calm fans’ nerves on his future at Anfield, his chances of continuing with the club is getting slimmer each day and this has been been corroborated by a latest update on his contract situation.
According to The Sun, Liverpool have suffered a huge setback on contract renewal talks with Alexander-Arnold due to disagreement on wage terms.
Arnold earns 180,000 weekly at Liverpool. The club are reportedly ready to improve his wage terms but have yet to reached an agreement on the exact amount of additional pay.
From Arnold’s camp, the player reportedly wants a wage increase that will match offers to the club’s highest-paid players – Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool aren’t ready to meet the demand as a matter of maintaining harmony in the squad not financial reasons.
As the contract renewal process drags, there are suggestions Arnold could leave at the end of the season. He will be free to enter into pre-contract talks with other clubs in January 2025.
Real Madrid are reportedly monitoring the unfolding contract saga involving the player and are interested in signing him in the summer.
