World football’s governing body, FIFA, have shortlisted an 11-man nominees’ for the 2024 Best Men’s Player of The Year Award, MySportDab reports.
2024 Ballon D’Or winner and Manchester City midfielder Rodri is leading the list of names nominated for the award.
Also on the list is Rodri’s biggest rival for the 2024 Ballon d’Or honor and Real Madrid sensation Vinicius Jr.
Rodri’s emergence as the winner of the 2024 Ballon d’Or sparked debates with Real Madrid boycotting award in the last hours with claims of being ‘robbed.’
It is unclear whether such sentiments will further be stoked in the 2024 FIFA Awards with the two players set to g head-to-head again for the coveted individual football honor.
Other nominees for the award are Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal. Carvajal was also a strong contender for the 2024 Ballon d’Or award, finishing in the top five ranking after winning the La Liga, UEFA Champions League, and 2024 Euros.
Another Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham has also been nominated for the award, including Kylian Mbappe.
Toni Kroos, who called time on his career recently, has also been nominated, including Uruguayan midfield sensation Federico Valverde.
Manchester City’s prolific forward Erling Haaland also makes the list, including fast-rising Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal.
A surprise inclusion in the list is eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi, who is currently plying his trade in the MLS with Inter Miami.
Bayer Leverkusen and German attacking sensation Florian Wirtz has also made the list following his standout performances for Bayer Leverkusen last season.
