Sporting Fans Bid Ruben Amorim Farewell In An Emotional Video! [WATCH]

Ruben Amorim played his last home match as Sporting Lisbon manager against Manchester City on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, MySportDab reports.

The 39-year-old is expected to leave the club and join Manchester United as new manager in a few days.

Manchester United announced him as manager a few days after former boss Erik ten Hag was shown the exit door following a dragging run of poor results this season.

The falling Premier League giants forked out £8.4m to pay Amorim’s release clause. They also paid additional £840,000 to break his 30-day notice clause and allow him leave to United immediately.

However, Sporting Lisbon wanted him to oversee the club’s next matches against Manchester City in the Champions League and an away Primeira Liga trip to his former club Braga.

Emotions rent the air among Sporting fans at the Jose Alvalade Stadium on Tuesday night as Amorim took charge of his last home game as the club’s manager.

The fans erected a large tifo which reads ‘Obrigado’ Amorim, literally translating as ‘Thank you Amorim.’ Also, his name was on the lips buoyed fans who celebrated his heroic and transformational four-year spell with the club.

After the match, Sporting players mounted a guard of honor for him and flung him up in the air to join the celebrations. Watch Video On Twitter

Meanwhile, the former Braga boss tarried a little longer on the field, clapping and bidding the fans farewell as he prepares for a new chapter away from the Primeira Liga giants.

Notably, Amorim marked his last match at the Jose Alvalade Stadium with a brilliant 4-1 Champions League victory over Premier League Champions Manchester City.

Viktor Gyokeres’ hat-trick and a goal from Araujo saw The Lions cancelled out Phil Foden’s 4th-minute strike to hand the Primeira Liga champions a historic victory.

Despite the heavy send-forth atmosphere, Amorim still has another chance to meet Sporting fans. He will take charge of his last match as Sporting manager with an away Primeira Liga fixture against his former club Braga on Sunday, November 10, 2024.

A day after the match, he will travel to Manchester to resume proceedings as United’s new manager, having signed a three-and-a-half-year contract worth £6.75m per year.
