Manchester United have settled for a shock home defeat against Newcastle United in the Premier League, MySportDab reports.
The Red Devils have been harried to a 2-0 defeat by the Tyn-based outfit at Old Trafford.
It is the second time the hastily-assembled Ruben Amorim squad have suffered defeat at home in the Premier League after a 3-0 thrashing by Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth on Sunday, December 22.
The loss to the Cherries marked the club’s second consecutive defeat after a statement 2-1 comeback win over cross-city rivals Manchester City at Etihad.
Against the Magpies at Old Trafford, Ruben Amorim was expected to lead the team back to winning ways before it ended in another brutal capitulation in front of the home fans.
Swedish forward Alexander Isak opened the scoring for the away side just four minutes into the game.
15 minutes later, Joelinghton doubled the lead for the Magpies to deal a big blow to the Red Devils.
It was a totally shambolic start for Manchester United as they struggled with missed passes, uncoordinated offensives and a slacking attack.
Ruben Amorim was forced to sub off Joshua Zirkzee just 30 minutes into the game as United’s clueless posturing against the hard-fighting visitors continues.
Meanwhile, the two quick goals by the away side was enough to secure the lead at the break.
The second half was no different. United continued on a less clinical performance and struggled to mount a comeback.
Newcastle United gave a good account of themselves despite the lead and were looking more threatening on the offensive than the hosts.
Amorim made more substitutions trying to create momentum and elicit United’s attack but it appeared he exhausted all possible tactical tweaks to turn things around with no tangible impact.
The game finally ended with United settling for their third consecutive Premier League defeat and fourth in all competitions under Amorim.
They will take on Liverpool in their next game on Sunday.
