Before becoming head coach at Michigan State, Nick Saban was an assistant at Syracuse, West Virginia, Ohio State, the Naval Academy, and Michigan State.

After Saban’s tenure as an assistant coach with the NFL’s Houston Oilers ended in 1989, he was offered the head coach position at the University of Toledo.

Saban resigned after just one season at Toledo to accept a job as defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns.

Saban was named Michigan State University’s head coach just before the 1995 season. After a tough couple of years, the Spartans had a good year in 1999, with just two defeats under his tutelage.

Nick Saban transferred to LSU after a good season at Michigan State. The five years he spent coaching the Tigers ended with a BCS title.

The Miami Dolphins hired Nick Saban as their head coach in 2004, marking Saban’s return to the National Football League.

After a dismal first season, the second was significantly worse due to injuries.

Soon after Nick’s return to collegiate football became public knowledge, rumours began circulating that Saban was being considered for the head coaching job at Alabama State University.

Saban was formally named head coach of the Crimson Tide in 2007. After that, he guided the squad to an undefeated second season.

Nick went on to win many Coach of the Year honours as his team advanced to the SEC title game.

Once again, the Crimson Tide was unbeaten in 2010 and took home the national title. In the following years, The Crimson Tide became known for their knack for annihilating opponents.

They ended 2012 and 2013 with a pair of national titles.

The Crimson Tide became highly ranked and won several more championships in the following years.

Once again, after a somewhat sluggish start, the squad hit its stride in 2015. Saban achieved his first Sugar Bowl championship in 2017.

Alabama was dragged crashing down to earth in the 2019 season, suffering more than two losses for the first time since 2010 and did not make it to the College Football Playoffs.

But in 2020, the Crimson Tide got back on track and won their 18th national championship in 2021 by defeating No. 3 Ohio State 52–24 in the College Football Playoff.

With this victory, Saban surpassed Paul Bryant for the most championships in program history with seven, including six with Alabama.

Nick announced his resignation as coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide on 10 January 2024 after 16 seasons and an estimated salary of $130 million.
