Ligue 1 Mocks Cristiano Ronaldo With Lionel Messi Post After Disparaging Remark

Cristiano Ronaldo must have poked the beehive after he made a controversial remark on French elite football league – Ligue 1, MySportDab reports.

During the 2024 Globes Soccer Award, Ronaldo said PSG are the only viable club in France and the rest of the teams are finished.

“France only has PSG. The rest are finished. Try to sprint in 38, 39, 40 degree weather and see…” he said.

The 39-year-old’s comment seemed not to have sat well with the management of the French top flight and they have responded with a mocking post.

On the league’s official account on Saturday, footage of Lionel Messi winning the 2022 World Cup was shared with a caption which reads;

“Leo Messi playing in 38the degrees.”

It was obvious that the post was a subtle dig at Cristiano Ronaldo following the latter’s comment on the league being run on hostile temperatures with only one viable team.

Lionel Messi joined PSG in 2021 from Barcelona and won the Ligue 1 title in his two seasons with the club, including the 2022 World Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal crashed out of the 2022 World Cup in the quarterfinals, losing to Morocco.

Ronaldo’s 2022 World Cup campaign with Portugal coincided with his infamous move to Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.

Since the move, he has been vocal on the competitiveness of the Saudi elite division compared to other lower leagues in Europe like the Ligue 1 and others.

But his latest remark appeared to have rattled nerves, prompting the satirical response by Ligue 1.

Notably, PSG have lorded the French top flight over every other club lately. They have won it eight times in the last 10 seasons with only Monaco and Lille breaking the domineering run.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has yet to win the Saudi league title with Al-Nassr despite his impressive performances.

This has usually served as his reference point when making a case for the competitiveness of the Saudi Pro League compared to other leagues in Europe.
