Wolves striker Matheus Cunha has been suspended for two matches and fined £80,000 by the FA following an altercation with an Ipswich Town staff member earlier this month, MySportDab Reports.
The Brazilian forward was punished after shoving a security official in the face during heated post-match scenes following Wolves’ dramatic defeat to the Tractor Boys.
Cunha, 25, has been a standout performer for Wolves this season, registering 10 goals and 4 assists despite the team’s struggles near the relegation zone.
While his case was under review, the forward was allowed to play in key fixtures against Leicester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur.
However, the ruling now sidelines him for the Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest on Monday and the FA Cup third-round tie at Bristol City.
New Wolves manager Vitor Pereira, unbeaten since replacing Gary O’Neil, expressed readiness for Cunha’s absence. “We are trying to prepare other players because when it happens, we must be ready,” Pereira said. The manager may see the timing as a blessing in disguise, as Cunha was already dealing with a knock that forced him off at halftime during the weekend draw with Spurs.
Meanwhile, Wolves are bracing for a challenging January, with top clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal reportedly interested in Cunha ahead of the transfer window opening on Wednesday.
The striker’s impressive performances have attracted suitors, but Wolves will hope to retain their talisman as they fight to climb out of 17th place in the Premier League standings.
With Cunha’s suspension and potential transfer distractions, Pereira faces a critical test in maintaining the team’s momentum and ensuring they avoid slipping further into relegation danger.
