Liverpool manager Arne Slot has broken his silence on Real Madrid’s move for Trent Alexander-Arnold, MySportDab reports.
We reported earlier that Real Madrid have stepped up their interest in signing the 26-year-old and have reportedly contacted the Merseyside outfit for a deal.
Liverpool rejected the advances and are understood to be unwilling to sell the player. Spanish outlets report the LaLiga and European champions aren’t deterred after the initial rejection and are set to submit a £20m offer for the player in their planned second attempt.
Recently addressing the Los Blancos’ interest in Arnold, Arne Slot confirmed the advances by the Madrid-based rivals is not a distraction to the club as he is confident of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s commitment to the club.
As quoted by Fabrizio Romano, the Dutch tactician said;
“He [Trent Alexander-Arnold ] is fully committed to us and I can tell you that he will play on Sunday!”
When asked whether he has spoken to the player since Madrid came calling, he responded;
“I speak to every player once in a while. For Trent that is the same, so yes… I spoke to him”.
Trent has yet to agree a new contract with Liverpool and has six months left on his contract. He is free to enter into pre-contract talks with other clubs.
According to reports, Real Madrid are just pulling the strings this January to publicly announce their interest in the player but reportedly want him on a free transfer in the summer.
They have reportedly asked him to sign a pre-contract agreement to forestall chances of him changing his mind in the future.
As things stand, it’s a tricky challenge for Liverpool. They have until the summer to agree a new deal with the homegrown star or risk losing him on a free transfer to the Spanish rivals.
