Liverpool continued on their perfect run in the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League with a 2-1 victory over Lille at Anfield on matchweek 7, MySportDab reports.
Goals from Mohamed Salah and Harvey Elliot saw the Reds skim pass the Ligue 1 side to make it 7 wins in 7 matches in the competition.
It was a cagey affair from the start with the Ligue 1 representatives hoping to pull a shocker but the Reds were equal to the task.
The two sides struggle for chances but it didn’t take long before Liverpool made their searing dominance count.
Salah took his Champions League tally with the Reds in the campaign to 7 goals after scoring four minutes after the half-hour to give the home side the lead.
Trailing by the lone goal, Lille made little attempt to mount a comeback but Liverpool also struggled to double the lead before the break.
Salah’s goal made the difference in the first 45, setting the stage for a seventh consecutive victory for the home side.
In the second half, Lille suffered a setback after Mandi picked up his second yellow card and was issued marching orders thereby reducing the visitors to 10 men.
However, surprisingly, they fought back with an unlikely lifeline goal by Jonathan David just three minutes after the red card.
With the scores tied at 1-1, Liverpool ramped up attempts to leverage on their numerical advantage and go back into the lead.
It took the hosts just five minutes after Jonathan David’s equaliser to put the ball into the back of the net again and return to the lead.
Harvey Elliot bailed the hosts out with a brilliant goal and the goal was enough to secure all three points for the Arne Slot-led side while maintaining their perfect run.
