Dani Olmo and Pau Victor La Liga registration update for the remaining part of the season has been confirmed, MySportDab.
Both Olmo and Victor, who joined Barcelona last summer, are facing uncertain futures at the club due to a registration hiccup spurned by Barcelona’s dwindling financial fortunes.
MySportDab understands the two players were initially registered till December 31, 2024 after they joined last summer from RB Leipzig and Girona, respectively.
Their registration was expected to be renewed at the expiration of the December deadline.
At the heart of the spatial registration was Barcelona’s difficulties in breaking even from La Liga’s financial and Fair Play Rules.
At the moment of filing this report, it is understood the Catalan giants have yet to break even from the registration hurdle with the player now increasingly close to leaving as a free agent.
The situation is tense and both La Liga and Barcelona have released statements to confirm update on the situation.
Barcelona statement reads, “FC Barcelona informs that it has applied for a new license for the players Daniel Olmo and Pau Víctor to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). Club would like to deny having requested or receiving any moratorium to any governing body for these inscriptions.”
La Liga statement confirmed a two-day extension have been granted to the Catalan club to sort out the registration of the two players and also denied the club have submitted alternative plan to solve the problem.
“La Liga informs that, as of today, December 31, FC Barcelona has not presented any alternative that, in compliance with La Liga’s economic control regulations, would allow it to register any player from next January 2.”
The import of the whole confusing saga is that Barcelona will have to pay Dani Olmo and Pau Victor all the due wages and emoluments of their contracts if they are released into free agency due the registration saga.
Meanwhile, Olmo, who has been linked to Man City and Man United, has reiterated his commitment to playing for the Blaugrana, as per his agent, and is not imagining the premature exit in January.
Barcelona now have till January 2, 2025, to sort out the problem. It is understood they have received a financial boost to the tune of £84m after leasing out their VIP space in their newly-renovated Camp Nou but that isn’t enough to meet La Liga’s cap.
They will be back to action in a Copa Del Rey clash against Barbastro on Saturday and then play Athletic Bilbao in Supercup semifinal.
Olmo and Pau Victor are at the risk of missing both games due to the registration saga.
