Real Madrid have confirmed whether the club will appeal Vinicius Jr’s red card or not, MySportDab reports.
Vinicius Jr picked up a controversial red card in a heated La Liga clash against Valencia on Friday night.
The incident which led to the red card was initially overlooked. However, after a VAR review, the referee gave the Brazilian forward the marching orders.
VAR footage showed him attacking Valencia’s goalkeeper after the latter appeared to have confronted him after a challenge.
The red card has been a subject of controversies with fans and pundits divided on whether the referee was right to make the call.
Now, addressing the incident, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti refused to mince words, making it clear after the match that it was a wrong decision by the referee.
He went on to add that the club will appeal the decision.
“It was never a red card. We will appeal the decision,” he said.
Real Madrid were trailing by a lone goal when Vini picked the card but the 10-man LaLiga and European champions fought back to win at the death.
Substitute Luka Modric created instant impact, scoring just five minutes (six minutes after Vinicius Jr’s red card) after coming on to make it 1-1, thanks to Jude Bellingham’s assist.
Just at the last touch of the game, Bellingham made it a brace of goal contributions, scoring a stoppage-time winner to seal a dramatic comeback win over the opponents.
Vinicius Jr apologized for his red card and thanked the team after the match. Meanwhile, Spanish outlets report that the Brazilian risks a five-match ban if Real Madrid lost the appeal.
