Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has given a blunt reply on the unfolding saga pitting him against the club’s homegrown star, Marcus Rashford, MySportDab reports.
The Portuguese tactician has not had the best of starts in the dugout at Old Trafford but has got to grapple as well with a fallout with one of the team’s most influential players- Rashford.
It all started when he axed the 26-year-old from the matchday squad for the highly-anticipated Manchester Derby.
Explaining the reason for the bold but controversial move, Amorim revealed the player wasn’t in the best of form to have made the team, hence his decision to drop him from the squad.
He went ahead to further axe the player from other fixtures. Reacting to his drastic misfortunes under the new manager, Rashford made public his decision to leave and take up a new challenge.
He has been a hot transfer topic this January and is expected to leave soon with top clubs in Europe reportedly interested in his services.
Now, speaking in Man United’s Southampton pre-match press conference, Amorim swept aside the saga involving Rashford when asked whether he hopes to resolve the problem soon.
In a quote shared by Fabrizio Romano, he reiterated that he is focused on helping the team win the next match and not on whether Rashford is playing or not.
“Resolution for the Rashford saga? I just want to win tomorrow”.
“My focus is to win tomorrow, I will choose the players that I think are best to win the game tomorrow,” he said.
Rashford is expected to miss the clash against Southampton having fallen out Amorim’s favour. He has held talks with AC Milan and Barcelona and is expected to take up a new challenge away from Old Trafford with either of the two clubs.
