An Italian Serie A club have opened talks to sign Kyle Walker this summer after the player asked to leave Manchester City, MySportDab reports.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed Walker had told him that he wants to leave the club and explore new options away from the Etihad outfit.
“Kyle told me two days ago that he wants to leave and explore new options,” Guardiola said before Manchester City’s FA Cup clash against Salford City.
Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, AC Milan have opened talks to sign the player.
It is understood there is no agreement between the two sides but talks have been opened with AC Milan optimistic of brokering a deal with the top-rated English right-back.
Walker has one year plus six months left on his Manchester City contract but is open to calling it a quit with the Premier League champions.
Pep Guardiola is known for not standing in the way of players who ask to leave the club and will not obstruct Walker from leaving this summer if the player acts on his exit call.
MySportDab understands Walker’s decision to leave stems from the players’ lack of game time recently in the City squad.
He has dropped down the pecking order with the likes of Rico Lewis emerging as Guardiola’s prime defensive options in the Spaniards’ bid to beat the shocking team drop-off.
Walker joined City in 2017 and has been a key part of the squad, winning six Premier League titles, the Champions League, and the FA Cup.
A move to AC Milan will see the England defender embrace a new chapter in his career away from the Manchester-based outfit.
Meanwhile, the Serie A giants are also hopeful of securing the services of Marcus Rashford – another English and Premier League footballer who has fallen out of favour with his club Manchester United.
Both Rashford and Kyle Walker could be completing the second half of the 2024-25 season away from the shores of English football if all goes as planned.
