Ademola Lookman has a sent message to his erring manager Del Piero Gasperini after scoring a brace against Empoli in Serie A, MySportDab reports.
The Super Eagles sensation and African Footballer of the Year earned the wrath of Gasperini after he missed a penalty against Club Brugge in Champions League round knockout play-offs second leg in Italy.
Despite scoring a goal in the game a few minutes after coming on, he was lambasted by the Italian boss for his poor penalty-taking skills.
Speaking after the match, a visibly furious Gasperini described Lookman as the worst penalty-taker and questioned his decision to take the penalty when other players could have.
Gasperini’s outburst attracted widespread reactions with football fans blasting the manager for publicly slamming the player.
Lookman also reacted to the post by issuing a social media statement defending himself and reiterating his decision to ‘turn the pain from the managers’ comment into power.’
Now, a few days after the media row, Lookman has proven his class and resilience.
In a Serie A clash against Empoli on Sunday, he struck twice as Atalanta whipped the matchday 26 opponents to submission with a thumping 5-0 away win.
Reacting to the win and his stellar showing in the match, Lookman tweeted, “turning pain into power.”
The three-word tweet clearly alludes to his recent travail and bust-up with Gasperini in midweek after the UCL loss to Club Brugge.
While many will interpret it as a thinly veiled dig on Gasperini’s x-rated public rant after the Club Brugge match, the tweet affirms the players’ satisfaction with his performance after the disappointing remark.
