Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, newly-appointed Nigerian head coach Eric Chelle has met with three key Super Eagles players — Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi and Moses Simon, MySportDab Reports.

Africa Cup of Nations champions Nigeria only have dates with Rwanda on March 21 and Zimbabwe on March 25, 2025 to salvage the campaign. These fixtures are critical to Nigeria’s chances of qualifying and represent Chelle’s bow in charge of the side.

In preparation, Chelle, along with first assistant coach Hedi Taboubi, visited the three players to build rapport and discuss plans for the qualifiers. The meeting highlights the coach’s emphasis on establishing cohesion and comprehension within the squad.

Ndidi, who has skippered the Super Eagles on several occasions and has proven to be a consummate leader will be central to Chelle’s plans.

Fulham’s Alex Iwobi and Nantes’ Moses Simon also add valuable experience having both played key roles in Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign which saw Nigeria finish as runners-up.

Defeat in the two qualifiers will be fatal to the Eagles, who sit second-bottom in Group C with only three points from four games. After missing the 2022 World Cup in shocking fashion, Nigeria is eager not to mess up again.

Chelle’s willingness to reach out to his squad demonstrates the desire to rekindle Super Eagles’ form. Fan will hope that this hands-on strategy translates into the results on the pitch.

The Super Eagles have already commenced training to prepare for the fixtures, as Chelle hopes to guide Nigeria to victory to restore the country’s World Cup hopes.

With the clock running down though, these matches are a chance for the team to salvage some pride, and give fans of Nigerian football something to shout about.
