Jose Mourinho sparked a racial row after footage of him describing Galatasaray bench as ‘jumping like monkeys’ emerged, MySportDab reports.
The former Chelsea, Man United, Tottenham, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, and Roma boss came under the wires for the remark (video available at the end of this post).
According to Galatasaray fans, Mourinho aimed a direct and uncoated racial attack on Galatasaray when he said the club’s bench were jumping like monkeys while trying to appeal for a penalty.
A fan wrote, “Racist one,” calling the manager racist by replacing his famed media nickname, ‘the special one.’
Another Galatasaray fan said, “Mate has been racist from inception but just hiding under the pretense of having to sign more black players.”
Another added, “Mourinho is a damn racist with a deep-seated hate for blacks.”
However, despite the indictive comments of some Galatasaray fans, other football fans have begged to differ.
For instance, a user names @danielmox wrote, “Jose Mourinho is never a racist. He used those words in their literal sense not to allude to the nuances of race.”
Another user, @vicker666 said, “How people can’t used figurative expressions today is what I don’t understand. Mourinho was just applying an innocent figurative expression without meaning harm.”
Another added, “Let’s thrash all these talks of racism with Mourinho. Mate has the best records when it comes to working with players from all races, including blacks.”
From the foregoing, the wrangles may not die down soon but we reported earlier that Galatasaray have reiterated their decision to initiate legal proceedings against Mourinho for the said remark.
The club alleged that the Portuguese used the derogatory term to touch on the sensitivity of the players and equally charged his club Fenerbache to do the needful by condemning the remark.
Meanwhile, Mourinho has a great history for working with black players throughout his managerial career and has never been indicted of racism before.
