Liverpool have opened a gaping 11-point lead on the Premier League following a remarkable 2-0 away win over defending champions Manchester City at Etihad, MySportDab reports.
Two first-half goals by Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai saw the Merseyside outfit and league title hopefuls thumped the seven-time champions at Etihad.
As expected, proceedings began on a frenetic tempo as both sides tried to find the back of the net at the blast of the kick-off whistle.
While failing to effectively marooned the hosts to submission, the Reds were deadly from the start. The made fiery attacking forays and ripped through their opponents’ defense several times.
However, the goals were yet to come but it was a matter of time before they break the deadlock. Prolific winger Mohamed Salah opened the scoring with a brilliant finish.
Latching on the ball after a goal-mouth scramble, he fired into the back of the net and it deflected off City defender, wrong-footed Ederson and looped into the net.
The goal capped a dominant display by the Arne Slot-led side. Meanwhile, City had a great game as well with their sleek and possession-based play but were struggling to create chance when lurching forward.
On the back of a dragging deadlock in the visitors’ half, Liverpool were maintaining their attacking threat and looking set to nailed home their second goal.
Seven minutes after the half-hour, the finally got another into the back of the net. Dominik Szoboszlai, scored a screamer, firing a low shot from outside the box to make it 2-0.
The two goals were enough to secure all three points for the Reds as City’s futile struggle to find the back of the net continued.
Liverpool have now open a 11-point gap at the top of the table and will hope to continue on winning ways when returning to action in their next match.
