GOAT Debate: Benzema Pledges Allegiance to Brazilian Ronaldo Over Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has not been coy in voicing his belief that he is the greatest soccer player ever. In an interview with El Chiringuito, the 38-year-old claimed once again that he is the most complete football player of all time, MySportDab Reports.

“I haven’t seen any player better than me,” Ronaldo said. You have to examine the numbers — full stop. I think I am the most complete player in history. I do everything in football. “We’ve got to be good with the ball and with set pieces, and I think it’s (the World Cup) the right place for that: I head in the ball, I’m good with free-kicks, I’m good with my left foot, I’m fast, I’m strong, I jump. I think I am the greatest player of all time.

But others, including some of his former teammates, do not share Ronaldo’s view of himself. But in a surprise answer, Al-Ittihad striker Karim Benzema, who played alongside Ronaldo for almost a decade at Real Madrid, took a different view.

Asked about Ronaldo’s words, Benzema did note his former teammate’s incredible career but named another legendary am attacking player as his personal choice for the greatest of all time.

“If he believes he’s the greatest in history, he is. Everyone says what they want,” Benzema told TNT Sports. “For me, the best is Ronaldo in Brazil.”

One of the greatest strikers of all time, Ronaldo Nazário scored 62 goals in 98 caps for the Brazil national team and found the back of the net 104 times while playing for Real Madrid over five years. The way that he combined power and pace with technical trickery made him one of the game’s greatest icons, winning the Ballon d’Or on two occasions and the FIFA World Cup twice.

Benzema added: “I don’t like to compare one player to another, each one has his story. Cristiano has his, and he’s very good.”

Cristiano Ronaldo will no doubt hear the comments, and he’s set to have his chance to reply on the field when his Al-Nassr team meets Benzema’s Al-Ittihad in their upcoming Saudi Pro League showdown.
