The Madrid High Court in Spain have passed a shock judgement on embattled former Spanish football chief Luis Rubiales, MySportDab reports.

According to The Mirror, the court, who have listened to the testimonies and assertions by both parties, have found Luis Rubiales guilty of sexual assault.

As a result, he has been slammed with fine as punishment. Details of the court’s judgement revealed Rubiales will only pay compensation of €10,000 to Jennifer Hermoso for the assault.

He has also been barred from having access to Jennifer Hermoso and will remain outside the reins of football administration both in Spain and Europe.

Notably, Spanish prosecutors have asked for a two-year prison sentence as punishment – a plea that has now been turned down by the court.

While a fine and compensation of €10,000 is considered disproportionate to the gravity of the offence, Rubiales probably escaped a heavier punishment after coming out unscathed from the second charge.

Soldered to the sexual assault charge was claims that he wanted to coerce Jennifer Hermoso to admit to having given consent for the kiss following heavy backlash.

However, the court cleared him of the coercion charges, only finding him guilty of sexual assault charge. This led to the lighter sentence.

The embattled former football chief had insisted he had consent from Jennifer Hermoso before the kiss but was disputed by the footballer herself, who admitted to being violated.

Meanwhile, the judgment by the court put an end to a dragging legal tussle between the former football chief and Spanish prosecutors.
