Chelsea have made a shock swoop to poach a top-rated Barcelona player this summer, MySportDab reports.
Since Todd Boehly assumed the reins as the club’s new owner, the London club has splashed over a billion euros in an unprecedented transfer raid.
While the transfer momentum has slowed down recently, it is understood Todd Boehly’s transfer splurge is far from over as they prepare for another transfer raid this summer.
However, this time, the target will not be on the younger legs but on profiles that blend both experience and youth.
Notably, under new manager Enzo Maresca, the Blues have evolved a working attacking style that has placed the team among the deadliest attacking sides in the Premier League this season.
However, they have struggled in the defence, conceding at ease even against lowly-ranked teams.
To arrest these defensive lapses, Spanish outlet, Sport, reports that the 2019 Champions League winners are ready to go all out for Barcelona defender Jules Kounde.
It will be the second time Chelsea will attempt to sign Kounde. In 2022, they were among the frontliners in the race for the French defender before Barcelona beat the competition to secure the services of the former Sevilla defender.
Notably, this may be a difficult deal for Chelsea to pull through, not for the financial side of the move.
Kounde is valued at £46million – a relatively low price pecking for the deep pockets of Todd Boehly and his Clearlake Capital.
However, MySportDab understands Kounde has a contract with Barcelona until 2026 and is considered key to the squad’s plans under new manager Hansi Flick.
Nevertheless, the Blues will hope to lure the player to Stamford Bridge with a lucrative contract proposal plus an irresistible offer to Barcelona.
