Details of Mason Greenwood’s fallout with his manager Roberto De Zerbi has emerged, MySportDab reports.

The former Man United winger has been one of the standout performers for Marseille since joining last summer from Manchester United.

He has 15 Ligue 1 goals plus three assists in 25 appearances and is leading the charge as the Marseille-based side doubles down on its push for a Champions League spot in the table.

This terrific performance includes scoring three goals in the last five matches for Marseille except their Saturday Ligue 1 clash against Lens.

However, despite the spates of impressive performances, he has fallen out with Roberto De Zerbi.

Speaking ahead of their Ligue 1 fixture against Lens on Saturday, De Zerbi stated clearly he isn’t impressed with the performances of Greenwood lately and may have to take the difficult decision of limiting his role.

The former Brighton boss added he still has enormous respect for the winger as he personally contacted his father and was his first target and signing before he joined Olympique Marseille as manager. Nevertheless, he still expects more from him.

“He was the first player I contacted, even before I signed for OM. I had already spoken to his father. No one can have more respect for him than I do.

“But that doesn’t change anything: I expect more from him. He has to do more, because what he is currently showing is not enough.

”If he wants to achieve his ambition of becoming a champion, he has to be more consistent, sacrifice more and be more determined,” he said.

While Greenwood has been a key player for De Zerbi’s Olympique Marseille, the concern has been on his work rate.

He has reportedly been a less influential asset for the team on open play, especially on tracking back to cover defensive distances after offensives.

The strained relationship between him and De Zerbi led to him being axed from the starting lineup in their Saturday Ligue 1 defeat at home to Lens.

He was brought on as a second-half substitute but could do little to help the team avert a defeat at the death.
