Marcus Rashford can now heave a sigh of relief as he is set to return to England squad for the first time in 12 months, MySportDab reports.
According to David Ornstein of the Athletic, England new national team head coach and former Chelsea/Bayern Munich/PSG boss Thomas Tuchel has recalled the Man United forward back to the England squad for March international break.
Tuchel will take charge of his first match as England national team manager on Friday, March 21 when England host Albania in the 2026 UEFA World Cup Qualifiers..
This will be followed with another home fixture in the competition against Latvia three days later.
Ahead of the double-header qualifiers for the World Cup, he has earmark his squad to prosecute the tie and Rashford is a surprise inclusion, per David Ornstein.
The report adds the likes of Jack Grealish of Manchester City, who have been struggling for game time lately, has been axed from the squad.
Meanwhile, Rashford’s return to the Three Lions marks a significant milestone in the 27-year-old’s international career.
After winning a remarkable 60 caps since making his debut in 2016, Rashford hit the lows of his career in the 2023-24 season with Man United.
This cost him his place in the Three Lions squad, missing call-ups for international breaks, including the 2024 Euros in Germany.
Former England national team head coach Gareth Southgate cited his underwhelming performances as the cursor to the decision to drop him from the squad for the first time in eight years.
Notably, since the deadlock in the 2023-24 season, Rashford has been a shadow of his former self, struggling with a string of poor on-field performances and off-field controversies.
However, it appeared he was back to his game at the start of United’s new manager Ruben Amorim’s reign but later fell out with the Portuguese and was loaned to Aston Villa.
At Villa, Rashy hasn’t actually reignited the spark but has earned accolades for his improved performance and work rate.
Aside tactical considerations, it is believed the promising performance at Villa must have informed Tuchel’s decision to call him back to the squad.
