Real Madrid could be without their key players for a rollercoaster UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash against Arsenal, MySportDab reports.
Los Blancos will trade tackles with the Gunners for a place in Champions League last-4 in April. Tipped as the favourites to ace the tie, it appears the table may turn in Arsenal’s favour.
This follows the recent announcement by UEFA that it has mandated its ethics committee to look into provocative celebrations by Real Madrid players during their round-of-16 clash against cross-city rivals Atletico Madrid.
A statement issued by the European football governing body alleged ‘indecent conduct’ from Vinicius Jr, Kylian Mbappe, Anthony Rudiger and Dani Ceballos, during the clash against Atletico Madrid.
The full statement reads;
“A UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has been appointed to investigate allegations of indecent conduct by Real Madrid CF players (Antonio Rüdiger, Kylian Mbappé, Daniel Ceballos Fernández, and Vinícius Júnior) during the UEFA Champions League round of 16 match between Club Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid CF on 12 March 2025. Further information on this matter will be provided in due course.”
Specifically, Anthony Rudiger placed his finger on his neck in a menacing gesture that sparked controversy during the match.
Kylian Mbappe appeared to have touch his genitals while celebrating the win – a move that is considered indecent and unsportsmanlike by UEFA.
Vinicius Jr is indicted for provoking the opponents’ fans before and after the match while Dani Ceballos post-match antics was also considered disrespectful as well.
It is still unclear the kind of punishment that is likely to be meted out to the players if the are found guilty. However, analysts suggest they could be suspended from the clash against Arsenal in Champions League quarter-finals.
