Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has reacted to the club’s on-loan winger Antony’s explosive form with La Liga side Real Betis in Spain, MySportDab reports.
After struggling to live up to the billing and also nail down a regular spot in Manchester United, Antony has turned a corner away from his nightmare spell with the Old Trafford club.
He has been on a fire, scoring and assisting in both continental and domestic competitions for Real Betis. At the time of filing this report, the Brazilian winger has two goals and two assists (four goal contributions) in four La Liga matches for Real Betis.
He also has a goal in Europa Conference League with the club and is tipped to finish strong with the La Liga outfit at the end of the season.
Notably, this explosive form by the winger has been a stark contrast to his botched spell with Manchester United.
Football fans and pundits have been drawn into the conversation of what actually went wrong for the forward at Manchester United with some opining that Amorim’s tactical script must have nibbed the player in the bud.
Now, reacting to the player’s stellar shift with Betis, Amorim seem to absolve himself from such claims. The Portuguese tactician claimed Antony’s remarkable performances is basically a result of his improvement physically and not the team’s formation.
“We talk about some players like Antony who is much better in Spain, there are many factors…
‘…but I guarantee you it’s linked to the PHYSICAL aspect,” he said as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
Notably, Antony’s struggle at Manchester United stretched as far back as 2023-24 season under former Man United manager Erik ten Hag.
Hence, the blame can’t be soldered to Amorim. However, there are suggestions the Portuguese boss also failed to harness the best of the player after assuming the reins recently.
Antony now has three goals with two assists in five matches for Real Betis and will hope to continue on impressive performances for the team.
