Carlos Alcaraz produced a dominant comeback performance to defeat Lorenzo Musetti 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 on Sunday, securing his maiden Monte Carlo Masters crown and marking his biggest title since winning Wimbledon in 2024, MySportDab Reports.

After a challenging March in North America, where the Spaniard exited early in Miami and lost in the Indian Wells semi-finals, Alcaraz rediscovered his best form on clay to claim his sixth Masters 1000 title and 10th major overall, including four Grand Slams.

“It’s been a really difficult month for me both on and off the court,” Alcaraz admitted. “I’m proud of how I’ve handled everything and happy to finally win Monte Carlo. The hard work has paid off.”

On the scenic Court Rainier III, the 21-year-old initially struggled, racking up 11 forehand unforced errors as Musetti capitalised with two early breaks to take the first set. The Italian, who had endured a physically draining week, displayed impressive variety and poise to unsettle his higher-ranked opponent.

However, Alcaraz flipped the script in the second set, finding his rhythm and striking with precision. He reeled off five consecutive games to level the contest before Musetti began to falter under the pressure and fatigue.

The final set was one-way traffic. After an early break and a 3-0 lead, Musetti required a medical timeout for a thigh issue, but Alcaraz remained ruthless, conceding just eight points in the decider to close out the match in clinical fashion.

“I feel sorry for Lorenzo,” Alcaraz said. “He’s had a fantastic week. I hope he recovers quickly.”

Despite the loss, Musetti can take solace in a career-best Monte Carlo run and a rise to No. 11 in the ATP rankings as he eyes a strong clay-court campaign ahead of Roland Garros.

Alcaraz’s triumph sees him overtake Alexander Zverev in the ATP rankings, climbing to world No. 2 and taking the lead in the 2025 ATP Race, ahead of Jannik Sinner, who is set to return to training following a doping suspension.

The Spaniard now turns his attention to the Barcelona Open, buoyed by momentum as he builds toward a Roland Garros title defense in late May.
