Barcelona have opened a seven-point gap on top of the La Liga table following a 1-0 away win over Leganes on Saturday, MySportDab reports.
Hansi Flick’s side went into the game off the back of a thumping Champions League quarter-final first-leg victory over Borussia Dortmund.
With a commanding lead in the first leg of the UCL tie against Dortmund, Hansi Flick still fielded some of his best legs in the game as they intend to continue pushing for the La Liga title.
The likes of Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal, Pedri, and Fermin Lopez all started for the Catalan giants but it was another difficult tie for the title hopefuls.
They dominated proceedings but struggled to create chances in the opposition’s half.
Leganes held their nerves against the searing pressure and escaped in the first half without conceding a goal.
Meanwhile, Barcelona was dealt a severe blow in the 30th minute with Balde suffered an injury scare and had to be subbed off.
The second half was no different with Barcelona still on the front foot from the start.
Luckily for them, there was a breakthrough just three minutes into the restart.
Martins had won the ball in the middle of the park and found Raphinha on the left. The Brazilian forward then whipped a cross into the box and it was mistakenly turned into the net by Leganes player Saenz.
Saenz’s error proved costly for the home side and to the advantage of Barcelona who held on to the slim lead to secure victory at the blast of the final whistle.
Following the win, Barcelona have now opened a seven-point gap at the top of the La Liga table but have played a game more than second-placed and title challengers Real Madrid.
