Manchester City have boost their chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season with a dramatic comeback victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League, MySportDab reports.
The Premier League champions, who have been enduring a rough patch this season, went into the game four points away from fifth-placed Newcastle United.
They needed victory to snap at the heels of both Newcastle United and Chelsea, who are all locked in the race for a spot in Europe’s top tier next season.
Shockingly, it wasn’t the best of start for the Guardiola-led side as Crystal Palace defied the odds to score two swift goals early in the first half to take and double the lead.
Eberechi Eze opened the scoring for the Eagles before Chris Richards doubled the lead in the 21st minute.
While Crystal Palace looked set for a stunning first-half win, City were up to the task to overturn the result.
12 minutes after Chris Richard’s second goal for Crystal Palace, City fought back to halve the deficit through Kevin De Bruyne’s stunning free-kick goal.
It was another masterclass by the Belgian midfield sensation to restore comeback hopes for the Manchester-based side.
Just three minutes after the goal, January arrival from Eintracht Frankfurt, Omar Marmoush, scored his sixth Premier League goals to draw the game level. Marmoush’s strike saw the two sides settle for a draw in the first half.
The second half was a rollercoaster. It took City just 76 seconds into the restart to complete the comeback, thanks to Mateo Kovacic’s goal.
In the 56th minute, James McAtee extended the lead for the Premier League champions before Nico O’Reilly’s 79th-minute goal sealed the win for the seven-time champions.
It ended 5-2 after the final whistle with City coming from behind to complete one of their biggest victories this season. The win has seen the team close the gap on the top five in the table to just one point.
