Manchester United have closed in on their attempt to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves this summer, MySportDab reports.

Cuhna recently penned down a new four-year contract with Wolves till 2029 but has been increasingly linked to a summer exit from the club.

United have been on the trail of the Portuguese attacking sensation but have faced stiff competition from Premier League rivals such as Newcastle United.

Now, according to the Mail Sports, United are now the favourites to sign Cunha and are closing in on reaching an agreement with the player on personal terms.

Nevertheless, Newcastle United are said to be still interested in the race for the 25-year-old but stands little chance of breaking even with the move.

Notably, United have been able to secure the pole position in the race for Cuhna having convinced the player’s camp of his place in the team’s project.

New manager Ruben Amorim is set to make the player a key part of his rebuilding plans for the team next season.

Cunha plays as a forward and is likely to nail down a regular spot under Ruben Amorim’s squad should he join the club this summer.

Amorim has grappled with a seesaw of strikers that he inherited from his predecessor Erik ten Hag, with most firing blank and struggling to adapt to his system.

Cunha could be his first signature attacking signing since he became the new manager. However, it is believed United may be forced to drop their pursuit of other forwards like Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres to sign Cunha due to FFP rules.
