Serie A Matches Postponed Due To Pope Francis’ Death

All Serie A matches slated for Easter Monday, April 21, have been postponed due to the sudden passing of Pope Francis, MySportDab reports.

A press release from the Vatican media confirmed Pope Francis has died at the Vatican at the age of 88 following his ill-health.

The news comes as a shock to the global community, with torrents of tributes pouring in various quarters and divides.

World political actors, entertainment, including actors from the sports world have all paid their tributes to the religious icon.

And administrators of the Italian top flight have confirmed all matches slated for Easter Monday has been postponed till further notice to mourn the passing of the religious icon.

Pope Francis remained one of the passionate lovers of football and had shared moments with top players and officials of the sport.

One of these moments was in 2013 when he recognized the incredible achievements of Barcelona legend and Inter Milan played Lionel Messi.

Messi was spotted in the Vatican alongside Italian football legend Gianluigi Buffon with the Argentine being handed a gift by the Pope.
