The Hammers’ club statement confirming the sacking of the former Wolves and Sevilla manager reiterates that the 58-year-old has fallen short of expectations in the first half of the season.

“West Ham United can confirm that Head Coach Julen Lopetegui has today left the Club.

“The first half of the 2024/25 season has not aligned with the Club’s ambitions and the Club has therefore taken action in line with its objectives,” the statement reads.

With Julen Lopetegui off the Hammers’ dugout, a new hand is expected to soon to charge of the team. We reportedly earlier that the club had long begun the process of recruiting a new manager after Lopetegui lost the backing of the club’s hierarchy.

Talks and negotiations were done with high-profile coaches with former Chelsea manager Graham Potter among potential successors.

Among other candidates, Potter reportedly emerged as the favorite to take over the job and reports have it that agreement have already been reached with the former Brighton boss to resume immediately.

Lopetegui joined Wolves at the beginning of the season, replacing former English football veteran and Europa Conference League winner David Moyes manager.
