Manchester United winger Antony is suing his former club Ajax, accusing them of ‘unjustly’ fining him ahead of his £86m switch to Old Trafford in August 2022, MySportDab Reports.
The 24-year-old is pursuing “several hundred thousand euros” in damages, having had his wages docked on three occasions.
After an extended transfer saga, Antony became the third-most expensive player in United’s history, behind Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku. The Brazilian had made no secret of his desire to work again with Erik ten Hag and turn down a new contract at Ajax.
As negotiations stretched on, he had missed training sessions and was dropped from Ajax’s Eredivisie match against Sparta Rotterdam, despite being fit to play.
Antony is contesting Ajax’s decision to dock him a hefty fine for missing work without notice, claiming the punishment was “unlawful,” Dutch newspaper AD (h/t The Times) reported.
His arrival at United has not lived up to hope and speculation is growing he could depart during the January transfer window. Antony scored in his first three Premier League games, but has scored just twice in his past 57 matches.
The winger has found game time hard to come by this season and has not started a single Premier League match.
Under Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed earlier in the season, and now the new coach, Ruben Amorim, Antony has barely made it onto the field, playing 84 minutes across six appearances, all from the bench.
