Tottenham have signed top-rated Austrian center-back Kevin Danso from Ligue 1 club Lens, MySportDab reports.
As confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, the Lillywhites, having agreed personal terms with the player, have settled club terms with Lens for a transfer fee worth €25million.
Danso, who had played in the Premier League for Southampton, was eager to return to the English topflight having tasted action in the league as a FC Augsburg loanee to the Saints in the 2019-20 season.
Prior to Tottenham’s smart move, Wolves were reportedly the first Premier League club to have courted Lens and Danso for a move.
Close sources reveal the Molineux-based side had sealed both club and personal terms with Lens and the 26-year-old, and were preparing for his medical in the UK when Tottenham hopped in and hijacked the move.
With an apparently superior package for both club and the player, the hijack was swiftly sealed with Danso now set to settle with the white side of London.
He has agreed to a five-and-a-half-year contract till 2030 and is set to travel to London for his medical and unveiling.
Tottenham made the swift move for the Austrian footballer after they confirmed Dragusin is likely to face a lengthy spell on the sidelines after a grim knee injury against Elfsborg in Europa League final league phase match on Thursday.
Danso, born in Voitsberg, Austria, to Ghanaian parents, originally began his career in England.
He was groomed in Reading and MK Dons Academies before joining FC Augsburg Academy in 2014.
After two years with the FC Augsburg Academy, he started his senior career in 2016, playing for the reserve team before transitioning to the first team a year later.
He made 41 senior appearances for the club, scoring 3 goals before joining Southampton and Fortuna Dosserdof on loans.
In 2021, he sealed a permanent transfer to Lens and has racked up 112 league appearances for the club, scoring 4 goals.
He is known for his stamina, strength, and attacking brand of football perfectly fitting the profile of Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou’s typical defender.
