Liverpool legend Roberto Firmino might be nearing the end of his spell with Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League, MySportDab reports.
In a latest report by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Saudi Pro League club have refused to register the player for the remainder of the 2024-25 SPL season.
While it is still unclear whether the decision is solely a technical and procedural issue external to the club, the report confirms the club’s new signing from FC Porto Galeno is expected to be registered in Firmino’s place.
Galeno joined the Saudi side this January as a replacement and priority option in place of Firmino, who has fallen down the pecking order of the club’s attacking options.
Firmino joined Al-Ahli from Liverpool as a free agent in 2023 but has struggled to replicate his prolific goal-scoring strides at Merseyside with the Saudi side.
In his first season, he made 32 League appearances for the club, scoring six goals with nine assists.
In his second season – the last campaign – his appearance tally dropped drastically by almost 50% as he could only manage 17 league appearances for the club, scoring five goals with three assists.
This season, he has only played six league matches, scoring three goals with two assists.
While he has not surrendered totally his goal-scoring abilities, it is understood the club consider him out of their domestic league plans hence the move for alternative striker in Galeno.
Nevertheless, he could still play in continental club championship – the AFC Champions League – but is now poised to leave rather than continue on the peripheries at the domestic scene.
He has still has a year left on his contract but could leave before it expires as things stand.
