It was a rollercoaster as Barcelona traded tackles with La Liga title challengers Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday night, MySportDab reports.
The Catalan giants went into the game off the back of a brilliant run of form in all competitions and were clear favourites to ace the tie.
Atletico Madrid entered the game off a controversial deadlock in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final after being knocked out by city rivals Real Madrid in the shootouts.
Against a high-flying Hansi Flick’a side, the Diego Simeone boys hoped to bounce back to winning ways in front of their home fans.
It nearly went their way before Ferran Torres’ late clutch performance turned the tides against Los Rojiblancos.
Julian Alvarez scored just at the end of the first half to give the home side the lead after a dragging goal drought.
In the second half, it was still a tight contest with Barcelona stepping up moves to find the equalizer.
However, they were dealt another blow in the 70th minute when Sorloth scored to double the lead for Atletico Madrid.
After Sorloth’s goal, the rest was history. Like bees rattled off their beehive, Barcelona came smoking with a stellar showing that defied expectations after going down by two goals.
Just two minutes after Sorloth’s strike, Robert Lewandowski rekindled comeback hopes, scoring from Inigo Martinez’s assist to halve the deficit.
Six minutes later, Ferran Torres levelled the score, latching on Raphinha’s brilliant assist.
The two teams crossed regulation time with the game finely poised at 2-2 draw as goals appeared to have dried out from their composed performances after Torres’ goal.
However, Barcelona weren’t giving up on their charge for all three points. Lamine Yamal completed the comeback in the 90+2nd minute before Ferran Torres sealed it with his second goal in the 90+8th minute.
From two goals, the Hansi Flick army fought back to win 4-2 after the final whistle and reclaim the top spot from Real Madrid with a game in hand.
