Fiorentina have confirmed their decision on David De Gea’s future at the club amidst report linking the Spaniard to a possible return to Manchester United, MySportDab reports.

Manchester United were reportedly interested on re-signing the legendary goalkeeper following Andre Onana’s countless blunders, per Fichejes.

However, it appears such moves are doomed in the wake of Fiorentina’s recent decision on the player’s contract. Recall De Gea had penned down a one-year deal with the Serie A side in 2024 summer transfer window.

His contract was due to expire at the end of the season but he had a one-year extension clause attached to the deal.

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, Fiorentina have decided to trigger the extension clause and keep the former Man United goalie for another full season.

This means De Gea will continue with the club beyond the current campaign until 2026 summer. Notably, Fiorentina’s decision to trigger the extension clause for De Gea is not coming as a surprise.

The 34-year-old has aced his game since joining the club. He has made 28 appearances, conceded 27 goals, and kept 10 clean sheets.

Coupled with spates of impressive individual performances, the Spaniard has earned the confidence of the club, cementing his place as a first-choice shot-stopper for the Serie A side.

This comes after a 12-month relapse that saw his footballing career nearly coming to an end following the infamous Man United exit.

He will hope to continue on elite-level performances for the club as h sets out for the new chapter with the team.
