Manchester City have boosted their chances of a top-four finish with a dramatic win over Aston Villa Premier League matchday 34 clash, MySportDab reports.
With just four matches left in the season, the English top flight has witnessed one of the most closely contested race for a top-four finish.
City went into the game in fifth place with 58 points, just a point behind contenders Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest. They needed a win to boost their chances in the four-team race for Champions League football next season.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa also had a lot to play for as they are equally trapped in the race for the Champions League slot.
City, leveraging on their overwhelming support from the home fans, got off on the front foot. They dominated proceedings and looked set to race into the lead.
It didn’t take time before their dominant start paid off. Bernado Silva scored just seven minutes into the game to give the team the lead.
However, it took Aston Villa just 11 minutes later to peg the hosts to a 1-1 draw. Man United loanee Marcus Rashford scored from the spot to tie the score.
Both sides went into the break settling for a 1-1 draw, but Man City proved to be the better side with a more dominant performance although they couldn’t find the back of the net again.
The second half was not different from the first. City continued on their dominant display but struggled to find the back of the net.
With the regulation time crossed, the game appeared poised to end in a draw before Matheus Nunes scored in the last touch of the game to secure a three points for the defending Champions.
The win has seen the team climb to third on the Premier League table with 61 points.
