Manchester United Legend Paul Scholes has been appointed as caretaker manager at Salford City after Graham Alexander was sacked, MySportDab reports.

Salford are currently fifth on the League Two table having won two and drawn three of their  five matches so far this season.

Co-owner Scholes is now charge temporarily until the club find a permanent replacement for Alexander.

This is the second time Scholes has been appointed as caretaker for Salford, after he shared the role with fellow co-owner Phil Neville for one match in 2015.

Scholes’ only permanent reign as a manager was during his time at Oldham Athletic in 2019.

However, the former Manchester United Legend could not last beyond 31 days.

Scholes resigned after winning just one of his seven matches at the club.

The 45-year-old will now be joined at Salford City by former Wigan manager Warren Joyce once he’s completed his isolation.

Scholes’ first match in charge will be for the match against trip Port Vale this Saturday.

After Port Vale, Scholes still has to face the likes of Southend and Crawley.

However, Salford are expected to announce a permanent replacement for Alexander this month.

The club statement reads: “Salford City Football Club announces that Coach Graham Alexander has now left the club. The club met with him this morning and have agreed to part company.

“The club wants to thank Graham for his work at the club. In his first season he secured the team to Wembley, in promotion to League 2 and in his second season he also helped us reach the Leasing Trophy final.

“The club wish him all the best and more success in the future.”
