Chelsea Coach Thomas Tuchel has revealed that Timo Werner performs better in a two-up-top style of play, MySportDab reports.
This is after Werner scored in Chelsea’s win against Newcastle Unitedat Stamford Bridge on Monday evening.
Substitute Olivier Giroud, came on in the first half after Tammy Abraham’s injury, to score in no time.
Werner ended his three-month goal drought by making it 2-0 for Chelsea and securing all three points.
The win against Newcastle moved Chelsea back into the Premier League’s top four, ahead of West Ham United on goal difference.
Timo Werner did well against Newcastle as he did set up Giroud’s opener, with a tricky low ball into the box which found it’s way to Giroud after a deflection.
Speaking after full time, Tuchel told Sky Sports that he was pleased with Werner’s performance and ending his goal drought.
The German Coach also revealed his plan to utilise Werner going forward.
“He was impressive in the first half, second half was too many backward passes,” said Tuchel.
“I believe Timo was a decisive factor for us today with his assist and goal. I’m happy he scored, he deserved it, he has worked very hard.
“Timo can also play as a supporting striker, or as a No.9 if he uses his speed and runs. His favourite position is to drift out to the left side.”
Chelsea stretched their winning run across all competitions to four matches since Tuchel was appointed.
The Blues must now prepare to face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16.
Chelsea will hope to continue their good form against Southampton on Saturday before the play in the Champions League three days later.
