Bruno Fernandes missed a crucial penalty for Manchester United Vs Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday, MySportDab reports.
Fernandes has now issued an apology saying that he is frustrated and disappointed with his miss in the last few minutes of the match.
Manchester United failed to impress during the match and were put under pressure by Aston Villa regularly.
Dean Smith’s team scored the first goal in the 88th minute with a header from Kortney Hause.
There was VAR controversy about the goal, as Manchester United Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said that Ollie Watkins was blocking the view of David de Gea.
However, Manchester United got a chance to make up as a penalty is awarded in the 90th minute.
Bruno Fernandes stood up to play the penalty but lost the composure and played the ball wide.
The Portuguese international immediately issued an apology on Instagram to express his disappointment after the match.
Bruno Fernandes wrote: “I’ve always embraced my responsibilities under pressure in moments like this. Today, I stopped. But I took a step forward with the confidence i have always had when the ball scored on different occasions.
“Criticism is normal in football. I know how to live with it, and now use it to drive me on.
“It’s an important part of my commitment to never stop improving and to become the best player I can be, for the team.
“Today I took the responsibility given to me almost every time since I joined United and I will take it again with no fear whenever called upon.
“It’s very important for me that we all win together and I’ll always do everything to help my teammates to be the best we can be.
“I’m a player who plays with great desire and commitment on the pitch. And that’s what I will always do.
“Thanks for your support after the final whistle! I was very emotional to hear you chanting my name in the stadium.
“I will be back stronger, because i hold myself to higher standards but more importantly for the fans and my teammates.”
Some Manchester United fans were disappointed that Solskjaer did not let Cristiano Ronaldo take the penalty, given his record.
