Brendan Rodgers has now spoken for the first time about becoming the next Manchester United manager, MySportDab reports.
According to Manchester Evening News, Rodgers is believed to be the club’s preferred candidate as their next manager.
United have had a disappointing start to the season, with another recent 5-0 loss to Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Two weeks later, Manchester City defeated United again 2-0 at Old Trafford.
Solskjaer remains as manager, but pressure is starting to build further after each game.
Now, Manchester United need a positive result against Watford this weekend.
Speaking at his latest Leicester press conference, Rodgers was asked about the Manchester United job.
He said: “To start with, it is disrespectful for you to ask that question when the club currently has a manager in charge.
“Secondly, I can’t talk about it. I’m proud to be the Leicester City manager.
“My focus now is on our next match against Chelsea and getting ready for that.”
According to insider Manchester United sources, Solskjaer could remain manager until the end of the season.
Rodgers is currently under contract at Leicester City until June 2023 and United must pay the club a fee to release Rodgers and pay compensation to Solskjaer for his sack.
